What is URL encoding?

URL encoding represents characters with percent-encoded sequences so they can safely appear inside URL components.

URL components vs query strings

URL component encoding uses percent encoding, such as %20 for a space. Query-string form encoding may represent spaces with +; choose Query String mode when that behavior is intended.

When is URL encoding useful?

It helps prepare query parameters, API requests, URLs containing special characters, and developer debugging examples.

Privacy

Your input stays in this page while you work. Encoding and decoding happen locally, with no upload or automatic storage.

URL Encoder / Decoder FAQ

What is URL encoding?

It converts characters into percent-encoded sequences that are safe to place in a URL component.

Is URL encoding encryption?

No. URL encoding is a representation format, not a security or encryption method.

Why do spaces sometimes become %20?

encodeURIComponent() represents a space as %20, which is the default URL Component behavior here.

Why do some query strings use + for spaces?

Some form-style query-string conventions use + for spaces. The optional Query String mode supports that convention.

Does ToolBrio upload my text?

No. This tool processes your text locally in your browser.
